Italian Early Renaissance Painter, 1267-1337 Italian painter and designer. In his own time and place he had an unrivalled reputation as the best painter and as an innovator, superior to all his predecessors, and he became the first post-Classical artist whose fame extended beyond his lifetime and native city. This was partly the consequence of the rich literary culture of two of the cities where he worked, Padua and Florence. Writing on art in Florence was pioneered by gifted authors and, although not quite art criticism, it involved the comparison of local artists in terms of quality. The most famous single appreciation is found in Dante's verses (Purgatory x) of 1315 or earlier. Exemplifying the transience of fame, first with poets and manuscript illuminators, Dante then remarked that the fame of Cimabue, who had supposed himself to be the leader in painting, had now been displaced by Giotto. Hans Suss von Kulmbach
1476-1522 German Hans Suss von Kulmbach Gallery German painter and graphic artist. His real name was Hans S??ss. In general his work reveals the influence of D??rer, but he had little of the master's power. Von Kulmbach worked chiefly in Nuremberg, although he probably spent several years in Cracow as court painter. His masterpiece is the Tucher altarpiece for the Church of St. Sebald in Nuremberg. He also executed portraits and designs for painted glass.
Floris van Schooten
(1590-1655), was a Dutch Golden Age still life painter. According to the RKD, Van Schooten was the son of a leading Catholic family of Amsterdam who came to live in Haarlem in 1612. During that period, many Catholic families left Amsterdam where the Protestants had the upper hand in local government, for Haarlem, where the climate for Catholicism was more tolerant. The young Van Schooten became a member of the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke and married the daughter of a leading beer brewer there, Rycklant Bol van Zanen. Together they had 3 daughters and a son Johannes, who also became a painter
